Gábor Géczy
Candidate
My name is Gábor Géczy, and I am a Boston-based project manager and consultant working in the energy and information technology sectors. My wife and I moved to Boston in 2022 through the Diversity Visa Program, and we have been living and working here ever since.
Hungarian culture and music have been an important part of my life since childhood. I began with folk dancing, later studied several musical instruments, and played in bands both in Hungary and, more recently, in Boston. Today, I am an active member of a local Hungarian band, where collaboration, learning from one another, and shared creative work are just as important as the music itself. I strongly believe that culture remains alive when it is actively practiced within a community.
Through my professional work, I travel frequently within the United States and internationally. I work for a Boston-based family-owned company with over sixty years of history, where I experience firsthand the openness and welcoming attitude of American society toward newly arrived immigrants. I collaborate daily with colleagues from many different cultural backgrounds, which has reinforced my belief that integration becomes much easier when strong communities and meaningful points of connection exist.
I have been actively involved in the life of the Hungarian Society of Massachusetts, both as a volunteer and as a participant in community events. Through personal experience, I understand the challenges faced by individuals and families who arrive in the United States without children and may find it more difficult to connect with Hungarian community organizations. I believe it is important for the Society to offer meaningful opportunities for connection for them as well, and to remain open to those who may no longer speak Hungarian fluently but are interested in Hungarian culture and community life.
As a member of the board, I would like to support continued openness within the community, assist newly arrived members, and encourage collaboration with other cultural and national organizations. I believe that strong connections, shared knowledge and experience, and volunteer support strengthen the entire community in the long term, and that the leadership has a key role to play in fostering this environment.
