Hungarian Society of Massachusetts
Our goals
Nurture and pass on Hungarian language, culture, identity, and traditions to the next generations and those interested through shared programs, events, and gatherings.
Introduce Hungarian culture to the broadest possible segment of the American population, thereby contributing to the development and strengthening of American-Hungarian relations.
Support each other in building and maintaining community life in America.
Maintain connections with Hungary and Hungarian communities worldwide.
Provide moral, intellectual, and potential financial support to the local Hungarian community.
Why should I become a member?
1. Strong, supportive community
Membership connects you to a vibrant, modern Hungarian "village" in New England. It's a network of people who support each other, reminiscent of the tight-knit communities in Hungary.

2. Cultural heritage preservation
The Society fosters linguistic and cultural ties on its own, as well as in close collaboration with Boskola and Hungarian Scouts, ensuring that the local Hungarian culture thrives across generations.

3. Diverse programs & events
Participate in annual traditions like the Harvest Festival, Pig Roast Dinner and Dance, Heritage Day, concerts, Hungarian movies in local movie theaters, or lectures by well-known Hungarian artists or scientists. Members enjoy the joy of shared celebrations and cultural enrichment. The upcoming list of events are socialized via emails, flyers and online advertisements.

4. Discounted event access
Members are eligible for discounted or free admission for certain events (such as the Harvest Festival, the Pig Roast Dinner, movie screening) or advanced ticket purchase options for selected exclusive events (such as Wine Tasting), making participation more accessible and rewarding.

5. Opportunities for engagement
Members actively shape the direction of the Society by voting on initiatives, and helping organize programs that reflect shared values and priorities. Membership entitles members to hold any association office and to vote at general meetings. You may submit proposals, motions, and complaints to the governing body of the Society, especially with regards to recommending new activities that serve the goals of the Society.

6. Friendship & networking
Membership provides opportunities to build lasting relationships with fellow Hungarians and those interested in Hungarian culture, offering both personal and professional benefits. Building strong friendships within an organization fosters a sense of community, belonging, and emotional support, which can enhance overall well-being whether you're new to the area or a long-time resident.

7. Family benefits
We support and partially fund programs organized by Boskola and/or Scouts and the rental fees for Boskola, which provide children a unique opportunity to connect with their roots, develop multilingual skills, and grow in a nurturing environment. We also support them with fundraising opportunities, such as the Scouts’ refreshments and concession stand at the Harvest Festival or Boskola’s library booth at various events.

8. Independence and sustainability
Through membership fees, we increase the independence of our organization and ensure its sustainability. This creates opportunities for us to launch initiatives and implement projects for the benefit of our members, without relying solely on external sources. The revenue from membership fees supports our tax-exempt status, funds essential functions such as insurance and storage, and ensures the stability of the Society and its ability to organize events.

9. Your support matters!
Your financial and personal support also empowers a dedicated team of volunteers who organize meaningful events and activities. Membership signals appreciation for their work and helps sustain their efforts.
